As a single parent and native of Peoria, Illinois, I embarked on a transformative journey that required immense courage and resilience. The day I decided to move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area with my daughter is etched in my mind. I remember the excitement and fear that filled my heart as we packed our bags and set off on this new adventure. This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter, one filled with marriage, sickness, divorce, and spiritual growth. Amidst these life changes, I also became a foster/adoptive parent, a role that brought challenges, joy, and grief. I remember the first time I saw my son; he was scared and uncertain, but I knew adoption was inevitable. His smile and laughter filled our home with joy until his death. Opening my heart and home to children needing love and stability was a rewarding experience, and it has taught me the true meaning of family.

A Love For Learning

My academic journey is a testament to my unwavering love for learning, a pursuit that has brought me great joy and fulfillment. I proudly earned a Life Coach Certification from Bloom University, a BA in Education from Midwestern State University, and an AA in Fashion Design from Brook College. These diverse educational experiences come with their challenges. I remember the late nights studying for exams, the pressure of meeting deadlines, and the moments of self-doubt. But these challenges only fueled my determination to succeed. They have shaped my unique perspective and enriched my ability to express myself through poetry.

The Unexpected

After twenty-four years of providing various services as a Senior Group Home Manager for adults with intellectual and health-related disabilities, I suffered a severe concussion in December 2017, which caused me to go through countless hours of physical therapy and neurology appointments. Suddenly, I experienced a mental and spiritual shift; these issues caused me to rethink my aspirations. At that point, I had to rely on prayer, mindful meditation, and journaling to grasp this season of life. Asking myself what's next? Soon, I discovered that writing poetry brought peace and tranquility to her soul. As a result, I wrote my first book, "Walk with Me: Collections of poems, prayers, and reflections, " and published it on Amazon in March of 2021.

Moving Forward

Hello, my name is Sharon Bethea. I want to express my deepest gratitude. Your journey through these pages is not just a glimpse into my life as a single parent who understands what it takes to push past various obstacles, for example, constantly thinking about how to provide life necessities on a limited income, but an invitation to reflect on your own experiences, challenges, and triumphs. May you find solace, inspiration, and strength in knowing that you are not alone on this journey called life. As I continue to navigate the twists and turns of my path. This single parent is making her life mission to share, serve, and show other single parents;

How to embrace change,
How to become resilient when facing challenges,
The beauty and importance of staying true to oneself.
